6. MORE OF EVERYTHING / CD recorded 1999-2002, released 2003
produced by Niels Kaiser with Len Flöel at Schreinerei Biemle, Freiburg
SLOW MOTION and NOW HERE IS NOWHERE produced by Elke Sachsenmaier / mixed by Ingo Rau at Amps Factory Studios, Freiburg
Even when TURNTABLE was not finished we started to record some new songs in 1999- we were on an absolute ‘High’ in terms of ideas and creativity. This time, we were longing for a more ‘natural’ sound- with some oddities, of course. We still listened to a wide range of music, including Country and obscure/unknown Vintage records, which defines much of the flavour in the making of MORE OF EVERYTHING, which stands for me today as the supreme album of SHEGOESBANG.
The teamwork of the classic Line-up Elke, Niels, Friedemann and Peter with engineer Len is at its peak here and prominent on all tracks: from the self-critic opening rocker DIRT ON MY HANDS to the classic, nonchalant Live-Showstopper ACT YOUR AGE. We sometimes overdid it here and there a bit with some overdubbing, trying to enrich the lack of technical possibilities with pure creativity. Best example is the musical clock at the end of NOW HERE IS NOWHERE, the most sinister track of the album. The key fitted perfectly…like magic.
So we had a great new record with lots of sweet moments- but unfortunately not the same line-up to promote it, because Friedemann left the band just right after finishing. Although we included a new keyboard-player, Christian, we needed a bassman too- at least we had three of ’em, the very best one our latest, Jean.
But right after MORE OF EVERYTHING it was not ‘that SHEGOESBANG’ for us anymore. Gigs were rare and we were about to lose our fanbase.
The decision to release the new record on our own, without label and distribution, was another nail in the coffin.
it was a bleak, hard time of transition where we desperately tried out new things, like starting our own Basement Bar/Concert venue BANGROOM. It went fine…for about 2 or 3 times.
But we had incredibly much fun to do the video of SLOW MOTION back then, in those different outfits of the many stages of Rock music, like 50s Rock’n’Roll, 60sBeat, Disco, Metal, Country, Gothic and Hiphop.
